How do store my headpiece and take care of it?We advise that headpieces should be kept in a hat box when not in use, and should be stored in a cooled place which is free from damp. This is particularly important if you have pets, and also to keep the headpiece away from moths, which can destory fabric, and feed on animal fibres such as feathers and silk. Scrunched up tissue paper above and below the headpiece within the box is used to support the headpiece and feathers, and act like a suspension when carried. We also advise to add a layer of flat tissue paper on top of the headpiece for protection.
-
Which occasions are your hats suitable for? Can I wear your hats to the Royal Enclosure at Royal Ascot? Our hats can be worn at many different occasions. They are perfect for race days, as well as weddings and other special occasions. Our collection of hats also meets the requirements for the Royal Enclosure at Royal Ascot (excluding the Leghorn). Whatever the special event you have coming up, we can help.
-
My headpiece is damaged, is there anything that can be done?"We know that when wearing a headpiece at events, unfortunately accidents can happen and headpieces can get damaged. If this happens to you, we will do our best to repair the headpiece for you. Please send us images of the parts needing repair along with your name, address and telephone number, and we will advise you whether it is possible to make the repairs needed. Please note, there may be a charge depending on the extent of the damage, and also for postage and packaging.
-
Are your headpieces sustainable, and do you use natural fabrics?"Yes. As the natural world is the inspiration for many of our designs, we care a lot about it and want to look after it, and so use natural or recycled fabrics wherever possible, such as the sustainable sinamay and silk for the blocked shapes within our headpiece designs. All our feathers are supplied as bi-products from the food industry, and we also collect feathers that naturally fall from birds in the wild. Clients still collect feathers and send them to our milliner Asif which he keeps for when the right feather can be used in a hat design. We also recycle and use vintage feathers whenever we can.
-
Do you use any harmful glues to make your headpieces?Interesting fact - the well-known expression "mad as a hatter" was derived from milliners using toxic glues which gave off strong odours. We do not use these types of glues; instead we prefer to use glues which are better for you and the environment.
-
Where do you source your materials from?As a British millinery, we support British businesses wherever possible and source 99% of our materials from the United Kingdom.
-
I have seen a headpiece I like, can you make an exact copy?"Unfortunately not. We create our own designs and respect our fellow designers and therefore we do not copy other headpieces.
-
How do I know if the headpiece will fit my head size, and is it comfortable?"We know that the headbands for headpieces need to be comfortable and discreet. The headbands within our headpiece designs are very comfortable to wear for long periods of time, and are made in a way so they can be adjusted to fit a different range of head sizes. This also means they can be easily removed and placed on your head without affecting your hairstyle, and can be removed for travelling in a car or on a train, giving you the freedom to remove your headpiece multiple times throughout the day if needed. If you'd prefer to have an elasticated band rather than a headband, this is also something we can do.
-
I'm interested in buying multiple hats - is this possible? We're thrilled that you're interested in purchasing more than one hat from us! We would ask that you let us know if you need the hats made for a specific date when placing your order, as all our hats are made to order and our availability may depend on other orders we have in process. -
Can I book a consultation, and how long does it take?"Yes, we offer free consultations. We would love to help our customers find the perfect headpiece, and provide any advice we can. All you need to do is book a consultation online using the booking form on our website. We also understand that some people may prefer an informal chat about their headpiece requirements, or it could be your first time wearing a headpiece and you would like some specific advice. Please feel free to give us a call, and we would be more than happy to assist. Our consultations take approximately 30 minutes, and are free. If you decide to go ahead with getting a hat from us, then we would charge a fee following the consultation when we start working on the hat - we would of course let you know this in advance and it would be agreed prior to starting any work.
-
Would you like me to bring anything to my consultation?Prior to the consultation, it would be very helpful to have the following ready: - An image of your outfit, or a link to the outfit online. Alternatively, you could send us a fabric swatch or a specific colour you like from a brand e.g. Harrod’s shade of green. Please send this information to studio@kisson.co.uk. - Please also include any information about you and your headpiece preferences, as well as the function you're attending and your height and hair colour. - A piece of string or thread and a ruler may also be good to have on hand for your consultation, as we may ask you to measure your head circumference. We will advise the best way to do this during the consultation.
-
What happens at a consultation?Using the images of your outfit you’ve sent over in advance, we will look at colours, design and size, and determine what would be suited for your occasion and what compliments you and your look. We can also discuss whether you are interested in a bespoke piece, which we can design with you in mind and for the occasion you're attending. Most importantly, we will discuss what would be comfortable for you to wear and what makes you feel fabulous! At the end of the consultation, we will make a recommendation of some designs that would suit you best for your special day, and then we give you some time to have a think about your options.
-
Where does your consultation service take place?Due to the current situation with COVID-19, we will be doing our consultations online or via telephone, depending on your preference.
